Subtract the recorded age from the census year. Because census records were taken on different dates, the estimated birth year may be off by one year depending on whether the person had already had their birthda
Why don’t census birth years always match other records? Ages in census records were sometimes estimated, misheard, or rounded. Census takers also visited households on different dates, which can shift the calculated birth year by a year.
